Title: “The 2021 Proudly Ndundu Festival returns to Kinshasa after two years of absence”
After two years of absence, the Fièrement Ndundu festival returns to Kinshasa from June 12 to 13, 2021 for its 6th edition. This event dedicated to people with albinism was created by the ASBL “Plus de couleurs” and aims to make this physical condition accepted as it is.
The director of the ASBL, Yan Mambo Kasongo, announced the holding of the event during a press conference held at the Pigeon Vert space in the municipality of Bandal.
This year, the chosen theme is “SUCH AS YOU ARE”. It encourages people with albinism to accept their identity as it is. “Most albinos are no longer embarrassed to be called ‘Ndundu’ and this is the biggest victory for me” explained the director of the ASBL.
The Proudly Ndundu Festival is known for awarding prizes to encourage the recognition and acceptance of people with albinism in society. This year, three prizes will be awarded: the Mwimba Texas prize will be awarded to an albino who has managed to emerge in society, the Kabasele prize will reward a non-albino person who supports the fight against albinos and the Belgian Ilunga Police prize will be awarded. to the best albinos who have chosen to support the fight.
Proudly Ndundu is also an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of skin colors within a community and to bring them together in perfect harmony. Yan Mambo says this is the essence of “More Colors”.
Through Fièrement Ndundu, Yan Mambo makes a significant contribution to changing mentalities about this physical condition and allowing people with albinism to feel integrated into Congolese society.
