In Africa, the scourge of illicit financial flows has become a major concern for the continent’s leaders. The DRC, exposed to the phenomenon, has decided to take the necessary measures to avoid becoming the epicenter of this scourge. During the 100th meeting of the Council of Ministers, Felix Tshisekedi called on the government to do everything possible to fight against this scourge.
The Congolese government has thus decided to speed up the establishment of the interministerial committee in charge of the fight against illicit financial flows. The Minister of Finance, in partnership with the Agency for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption (APLC), has been instructed to speed up the process to prevent the DRC from becoming the epicenter of this scourge which has harmful consequences on public revenues.
The phenomenon of illicit financial flows is costly for the African continent, which in 2015 was losing up to 50 billion USD per year. Currently, the losses caused by this scourge are estimated at approximately 90 billion USD. To prevent this scourge from continuing to negatively impact the Congolese and African economy, it is therefore necessary that measures be taken to combat this phenomenon in order to protect public revenues and the country’s economic stability.
