“Relaunch of Sino-Congolese cooperation: the memoranda signed by the Congolese government in Beijing”

The Congolese Government signed several memoranda with that of China, on the occasion of the historic visit to China by the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi. The purpose of this visit is to relaunch bilateral cooperation between Kinshasa and Beijing, in the spirit of a global strategic partnership.

The Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya Katembe, hosted a press briefing to detail the nature of the exchanges established, specifying that the relaunch of the partnership was based on the principle of a win-win agreement between the two countries. The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christophe Lutundula Apala Pen’Apala, took issue with the rumors of renegotiation of contracts between the two countries, recalling the basic principles of the partnership, including the development of natural resources.

Nicolas Kazadi Kadima-Nzuji, the Minister of Finance, underlined that the mission of the delegation made up of the three ministers was not to sign contracts with Chinese companies, but rather to breathe new life into international cooperation, in particular with China, one of the world’s main economic players and the leading investor in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This visit also made it possible to address certain concerns raised by China’s economic and financial policy, particularly in terms of investments and disputes related to some of them, such as the one with the mining company Sicomines.

Beyond the signing of legal instruments of cooperation, the visit was an opportunity to recall the importance of the initiative and audacity of Congolese businessmen to revive the economic sector and create job
