“More than 62,000 students begin the National Primary School Leaving Examination in the DRC despite political and security challenges”

On June 1, 2023, more than 62,000 candidates, including 29,233 girls, began the National Primary School Leaving Examination (Enafep) in the educational province of Kasaï-Central 1, located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The main provincial inspector of Epst Kasaï-Central 1, Pierre Daniel Kasongo, shared this information with the press during the launch of the tests by the vice-governor Martin Makita Fuamba.

During the two days of the exam, students will take tests in French, mathematics, general culture and science. This will consolidate the knowledge acquired during their primary studies and will play an important role for their future.

The Congolese government has been criticized for failing to take appropriate measures to increase security in schools during the exam period. This could lead to cheating issues and disrupt the conduct of exams.

Despite the challenges faced by Congolese students, initiatives are in place to support their development. The Young Entrepreneurs Fair is a unique platform for young people who want to develop their business in the DRC.

However, the political situation remains tense. Opposition groups have called for the suspension of the draft law on the distribution of seats, a subject that is causing great tension in the country. Furthermore, security in the DRC continues to be precarious, with terrorist attacks in the Beni region and the government’s inability to maintain security.

Despite everything, the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) have been welcomed by Western embassies. Although concerns persist, the CENI has worked hard to organize free and fair elections in the DRC.

Ultimately, the future of the DRC will depend on the ability of its leaders to meet these challenges and support the educational, economic and political development of the country.
