“Economic genocide in the DRC: the warning cry of Nobel Prize winner Denis Mukwege to stop this ignored tragedy”

The economic genocide in the DRC: a tragedy ignored by the world

Every year, August 2 is a day of remembrance of the genocide in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It is also an opportunity for gynecologist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Denis Mukwege, to remind the world of the magnitude of the tragedy that has been unfolding in this country for decades.

Denis Mukwege highlights the economic genocide taking place in the DRC. According to him, the global economic system is largely based on the mineral resources and natural wealth that the country possesses. However, instead of contributing to the development of the Congolese population, these resources are exploited to the detriment of its inhabitants.

In his statement, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate stresses that the political and security instability in the DRC is fueled by the incessant quest for raw materials necessary for the economic growth of the great powers and international companies. Meanwhile, the Congolese population is left in a state of poverty, victim of these economic interests.

Denis Mukwege also denounces the sacrifice of several generations of Congolese to meet the needs of the automobile and communication revolution. It thus challenges the international community on the fact that should future generations also be sacrificed in the name of economic development, even if it claims to be “green”?

Faced with this situation, the Nobel Prize winner stresses the need to put an end to the illegal extraction and illicit trade in mineral resources. It also calls for an end to the culture of impunity that reigns in the country. According to him, these two factors are the main causes of recurring conflicts and serious crimes that are repeated in the DRC.

Denis Mukwege insists on the importance of respected and respectable Congolese leadership to achieve real change. He hopes that this tragic situation will no longer be ignored by the international community and that concrete actions will be taken to put an end to this economic genocide in the DRC.

Denis Mukwege’s statement is a poignant appeal to everyone’s responsibility in the fight against this economic genocide. He reminds us that behind the economic interests hide many stolen lives and entire nations victims of this economic violence
