A terrible road accident has upset the small community of Kayembe, in Lualaba province, Congo. In the early hours of Friday July 28, 2023, a truck loaded with goods and passengers veered off course, tragically ending its course on the Ludi bridge, less than 10 kilometers from the village.
The provincial Minister of Transport, Pitchou Nday, confirmed the preliminary assessment: 18 people lost their lives in this accident. Among the victims are eight women, six children and four men. However, this figure could still change, as some passengers are missing and others are injured.
A provincial government delegation is on its way to the crash site to coordinate rescue efforts and provide support to bereaved families. This tragedy is a reminder once again of the importance of road safety and the need to take measures to prevent such tragedies.
The province of Lualaba, like many other regions of Congo, faces challenges in terms of road infrastructure. Local and national authorities must work together to improve traffic conditions and raise awareness of the importance of obeying the rules of the road.
This accident is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of caution on the roads. We express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and hope that measures will be taken to avoid such tragedies in the future.
