China and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have long-standing bilateral relations. With this in mind, the Congolese President, Félix Tshisekedi, paid a visit to China and insisted on the need to preserve the achievements of this relationship. He conveyed this message during his exchanges with a Shanghai Communist Party official during his visit to the city. The latter expressed China’s will to strengthen the friendship between the two countries through a new approach based on sincerity and frankness.
Félix Tshisekedi recalled the age of relations between the Democratic Republic of Congo and China, as well as the positive spin-offs they have had for the country. Indeed, Chinese investments have mainly been concentrated in the area of infrastructure, including roads, bridges and hydroelectric dams.
The Congolese President also stressed the need to protect the achievements of the Sino-Congolese relationship. For this, he believes that investment in sectors such as education, health and culture is crucial to strengthen the friendship between the two nations.
Felix Tshisekedi’s visit to Shanghai was the second leg of his visit to China, during which he was warmly welcomed by local authorities. Note that this invitation was seen as a new opportunity for the two nations to further strengthen their bilateral relations in various areas of common interest.
The DRC therefore continues to seek strategic partners for its economic and social development, and China is one of the main investors in the country. Félix Tshisekedi’s visit to China could thus be considered a crucial step in strengthening ties between the two countries.
