“More than 20,000 displaced, 11 dead and cases of child rape: the humanitarian crisis that is shaking the province of Kwango”.

Kwango, a province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is facing a new wave of displaced people following the attack by Mobondo militiamen in Batshongo village. According to reports, more than 20,000 people were affected by this new attack which caused the death of eleven people including soldiers, police and civilians.

The displaced include more than 7,000 women and children, including 62 unaccompanied children reported by human rights monitoring bodies. These people have witnessed sexual violence, including eleven cases of rape on minors, an alarming situation that requires the urgent intervention of the State.

Faced with this worrying situation, civil society and the NGO for community engagement against HIV/AIDS and child abuse plead for the involvement of the Head of State in the convening of a peace conference. to resolve this conflict. They are also calling for the establishment of a credible commission to resolve the crisis.

This humanitarian crisis in the province of Kwango illustrates once again the extent of the security problems in certain regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The authorities must imperatively take security measures to protect civilians and guarantee their safety
