The Congolese opposition is pressing ahead with its demands against what it calls “cheating” preparations for future elections. After seeing their march stifled by the security forces, the opposition leaders Fayulu, Matata, Katumbi, Sesanga as well as the President of the Piste Pour l’Émergence party, Seth Kikuni, organized a sit-in which was to initially stand in front of the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). However, they were prevented from reaching their intended destination by police forces. A fact vigorously denounced by Seth Kikuni.
The latter, declared presidential candidate for the DRC elections, underlined the opposition’s desire to see free, credible and transparent elections held. And to specify that their refusal to be intimidated by the police has strengthened their determination to fight against the possible second term of Felix Tshisekedi, deemed illegitimate.
Seth Kikuni’s Piste Pour l’Émergence Party thus joins the opposition with a view to asserting the promise given to the Congolese population that 2018 will not be repeated and to block any attempt to manipulate the results that would be put in place. in place by the regime in place.
These protest movements reveal an ever-increasing tension between the different parties, which some see as a danger to the stability of the country. In any case, current events should be watched carefully as the candidates for the DRC presidential election prepare their campaigns.
