Visit of EU MPs to the DRC: a mission to assess the humanitarian situation
The President of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Christophe Mboso, recently met a delegation of deputies from the Development Committee of the European Union (EU). Led by MEP Karsten Lucke, the delegation is visiting the DRC to better understand the humanitarian situation prevailing in the east of the country, affected by the activities of local and foreign armed groups.
The objective of this visit is to discuss with Congolese partners on problems related to mines, the humanitarian situation and development.
Karsten Lucke told the press after the hearing: “We are visiting the DRC, especially the national representation to get news on the humanitarian situation in the East. We want to listen to our Congolese partners around the problems that arise in this country: everything related to mines, the humanitarian situation, development issues, etc. We also want to go to Lubumbashi to listen and discover many other elements on this partnership. ”
The delegation of MEPs who are members of the EU Development Committee intends to draw up a detailed report on the real situation in the DRC, particularly on the humanitarian level, and present it to the bureau of the committee.
This visit bears witness to the European Union’s interest in the situation in the DRC and its desire to contribute to development and the improvement of living conditions in the country. By establishing partnerships and discussing the challenges facing the DRC, these EU MPs hope to find concrete solutions to support the Congolese population.
The DRC, plagued by numerous economic, social and political challenges, benefits from the attention and support of the international community, which recognizes the importance of stabilizing the Great Lakes region and promoting peace and development in the DRC.
This visit by EU MEPs is therefore a positive step in the search for lasting solutions for the east of the country and demonstrates the commitment of the international community to solving the problems affecting the region
