Peaceful march in Kinshasa: Martin Fayulu and his supporters demand credible and transparent elections
On July 29, Martin Fayulu, leader of the Commitment for Citizenship and Development (ECiDé), and his supporters will take to the streets of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Objective: to demand “credible, free, transparent, impartial, peaceful and inclusive” elections. This peaceful march, whose request was addressed to the governor of the city, also aims to demand the audit of the electoral register by an independent international body.
Martin Fayulu, who was a presidential candidate in 2018, is categorical: the electoral register must undergo an external audit carried out by an independent and reputable body. According to him, this is essential to guarantee the integrity and inclusiveness of the data collected, as well as to verify their compliance with the laws and regulations of the DRC. He is convinced that trust is essential to ensure the credibility of the elections and the integrity of the results.
The leader of ECiDé refuses to submit his party’s candidacy file until the electoral register has been audited. He believes that allowing elections with an unverified file would be complicity in potential voter fraud. He thus warns against any attempt to cheat during the next elections.
The ECiDé does not exclude the possibility of activating article 64 of the constitution, which allows the people to oppose a dictatorship, to defeat any form of manipulation of the elections.
This peaceful march by Martin Fayulu and his supporters represents an important voice in the Congolese political landscape and a legitimate demand for transparent and democratic elections. We hope that the authorities will take into account these legitimate claims in order to guarantee the integrity of the electoral process in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
