“Kinshasa in danger: Rebuilding our nation for a better future”

The recent tragic news that shook Kinshasa has highlighted the fragility of the situation in the Congolese capital. Between kidnappings, massive robberies and persistent rumors of trafficking in human organs, the city is plunged into violence that threatens to blow everything up.

Never in the recent history of the country has such a level of savagery been reached. It is crucial to be resilient to avoid descending into chaos. The future of all depends on the collective capacity to rebuild the nation, as well as on the action of the authorities to restore the principles of living together.

Yet, it seems that little is being done to rebuild the Republic and promote good citizenship. A few days before the opening of the 9th edition of the Francophonie, the construction sites are not finished, the city is dirty and insecurity reigns. National unity and the social contract are undermined by behaviors that inevitably lead to civil war.

What is sorely lacking in the country is the authority of the State over the entire territory, the equality of all before the law and the protection of the dignity of the Congolese people, humiliated by foreign occupations and irresponsibility of elites.

It is time for the power in place to place investment in education, training and culture at the heart of its action. Congo faces misdirection and a shameful diversion of financial resources.

The Congolese population, and more particularly that of Kinshasa, is young and faces massive unemployment. The greatness of a nation is measured by its ability to overcome adversity and care for its citizens. This requires a deep attachment to the rule of law, respect for institutions, patriotism and the safeguarding of national sovereignty.

It is crucial to remember that there is no inevitable violence. The authorities must show courage and determination to fight against this scourge. It is our destiny as the Congolese people to defend our country against those who want to plunge it into chaos. Passion and love for the Congo are the best antidotes to this situation.

It is time to rebuild our nation, placing the authority of the state, equality before the law and the dignity of the people at the heart of our concerns. Together we can overcome difficulties and build a better future for all
