“DRC Scandal: Road Accident Victims Abandoned Without Medical Care”

Well, we’ve strayed a bit from the original topic here. Let’s resume. Following a traffic accident that occurred on Saturday May 20, 2023 in Mbanza-Ngungu, ten people have been hospitalized for more than a week. Despite their state of health, the victims received no assistance from the Entreprise Générale Malta Forrest, owner of the accident vehicle, nor from the local political authorities. The families of the victims, who are mostly poor, have to take care of the necessary care themselves, without any outside help, and concern is growing about the future of their situation.

The situation is all the more shocking as one of the victims is a student at Kongo University, in L2 Law. Despite this, no territorial or provincial authority has come forward to offer adequate care. The inhabitants of the region wonder about the level of gravity that it would have to reach for this to happen. A scandal for the local public opinion which is worried about this indifference.

This event reminds us that helping victims of road accidents is not a given everywhere and raises the question of road safety in the DRC. Measures to improve road safety are essential to prevent such accidents and guarantee rapid and appropriate assistance in the event of an emergency.

However, the DRC wants to be developing and capable of solving the problems of its population. The authorities must therefore take into consideration the plight of these people and put in place policies to avoid this kind of situation in the future. The media must also relay these stories in order to make governments and citizens more aware of these issues and thus contribute to a change in mentality necessary to better protect the inhabitants.
