The exhibition of painter Patsheli Kahambo was inaugurated on May 20 at the Malabo gallery in Kinshasa. Dice games on the wall, flasks and dice used to play are part of the installation that accompanies the exhibition. For Patsheli Kahambo, these elements represent luck. However, the artist does not see luck as a simple game of chance, but rather as the fruit of work and perseverance.
In this exhibition, the artist pays tribute to the city of Kinshasa and its population, which has more than 13 million inhabitants and where unemployment is high. Small businesses are very present in the city, allowing part of the population to survive. Patsheli Kahambo therefore decided to draw these often undervalued professions.
Among these works, the artist wanted to highlight the work of a taxi-motorcycle driver. He thus made a physical installation of a motorcycle to accompany the exhibition. He also wanted to highlight the fact that women can also practice this profession, often associated with men.
The exhibition is accessible until July 10 and presents the works of Patsheli Kahambo, which reflect the energy and aspirations of Kinshasa and the whole country. The bright colors used by the artist are a reaction to the darkness that sometimes characterizes the country, which, after independence, had a bright future ahead of it.
Visiting this exhibition is an excellent opportunity to discover the work of this talented Congolese artist, who has already exhibited in several African countries and in Paris. Finally, for lovers of contemporary art, the Malabo gallery is located in Kinshasa, at the crossroads of Kato and Huilerie avenues.
