The Democratic Republic of Congo and the World Bank have reached an agreement on the dissolution of the DRC Social Fund (FSRDC), which will allow the continuation of three development projects financed by the World Bank. The agreement was reached during a technical meeting held on May 15 in Kinshasa, between the Congolese authorities and the World Bank. According to Guylain Nyembo, Chief of Staff of the Head of State, the restructuring of the FSRDC was guided by the concern to comply with the constitution and the laws of the Republic, and has as its main objective the improvement of the living conditions of the Congolese people.
The World Bank had suspended disbursements for the three projects in question (DRC Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response Project, Eastern DRC Recovery Project, and Eastern DRC Stabilization and Recovery Project). DRC) after the dissolution of the FSRDC by the Congolese government. But the DRC authorities and the World Bank have been working to identify transition agreements for the implementation of these three projects, in order to minimize disruptions in activities and any negative impact on project beneficiaries.
