Title: Three natural disasters in two weeks in the DRC: the call for aid and solidarity
The Democratic Republic of Congo has been hard hit by natural disasters in recent weeks. After the Kalehe disaster which killed more than 400 people and left thousands missing, the country has two new tragedies. The first landslide in Bisunzu on the night of Tuesday May 8 also caused casualties there. Last night, it was the locality of Katholo which suffered the consequences of a heavy rain which caused the landslide. The loss of human life is significant. According to the sources, seven bodies have already been found and it could get worse depending on how the situation develops.
Social networks are mobilizing to find aid for victims and call for solidarity, inviting them to contribute to relief efforts and humanitarian aid.
Global warming is particularly implicated in natural disasters, but better risk management and early warnings could minimize the damage. The population of the DRC needs rapid intervention and moral and material support to deal with these emergency situations.
