The textile industry in Egypt, especially in Mahalla City, has always been at the heart of the country’s economy. The Holding Company for Spinning and Weaving, under the leadership of its CEO Ahmed Shaker, recently revealed impressive figures regarding the development of the textile industry in the region. Indeed, the factories of Mahalla City represent 45% of the national project for the development of this crucial industry.
During a recent presentation in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Ahmed Shaker highlighted the importance of the cities of Mahalla and Kafr El Dawar, which alone represent 85% of the project. Colossal investments, amounting to 1.1 billion euros, have been allocated to this project, including 640 million for the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment and machinery.
The Prime Minister’s field visit to the Mahalla Spinning Company factories is part of the launch of new facilities, improvement of the efficiency of existing factories and assessment of development projects. This national project aims to boost local production, strengthen competitiveness and increase exports, thus contributing significantly to the country’s economic growth.
The textile industry has a long history in Egypt and is the second largest industrial sector in the country after agri-food. Playing a vital role in the Egyptian economy, this industry has however faced various challenges in recent years. This is why the State has implemented a modernization strategy aimed at revitalizing this key sector.
Cotton cultivation, a key raw material for the textile industry, has also been a major focus. After a period of decline, Egypt has increased its production of Egyptian cotton in order to regain its leading position in the market. The steadily increasing production figures underline the efforts made to revive this vital sector.
In conclusion, the textile sector in Egypt, particularly in Mahalla City, is undergoing a transformation thanks to the massive investments and modernization initiatives undertaken by the government. These efforts aim to sustain and develop an iconic industry that continues to play a major role in the national economy.
