Symposium of UNILU and the Provincial Assembly of Haut-Katanga: Catalysts of Regional Development


Fatshimetrie and the Provincial Assembly of Haut-Katanga are jointly organizing a symposium from December 27 to 29, highlighting UNILU’s cooperation in solving social challenges in the province.

This prestigious event brings together renowned experts, addressing various crucial aspects such as the economy, agro-pastoral, entrepreneurship, defense and security. The objective is to propose concrete solutions to catalyze the development of Haut-Katanga.

During the opening ceremony, Jacques Kyabula, Governor of the province, expressed his full support for this initiative. He pledged to support these reflections aimed at energizing the region and transforming challenges into growth opportunities.

Michel Kabwe, President of the Provincial Assembly, praised UNILU’s commitment to finding solutions to the daily problems of the population of Haut-Katanga. According to him, the university plays a crucial role in making significant contributions to different sectors such as water, agriculture, health and land use planning.

In a passionate speech, Gilbert Kishiba, Rector of UNILU, highlighted the university’s vital role as a knowledge centre serving the community. He recalled that the institution is a key driver of development and is ready to address current challenges and contribute to a prosperous future for Haut-Katanga.

A crucial point raised during the symposium was the issue of pollution of waterways due to mining. Experts highlighted the need for in-depth analysis of the quality of water, soil and food products. UNILU, through its laboratories and observatories, is positioning itself as a key player in the search for sustainable solutions to these major environmental issues.
