Intense clashes between FARDC and Makanika-Red Tabara in Minembwe: An unwavering struggle for peace and security


Fatshimetrie recently reported intense clashes between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and the Makanika-Red Tabara rebel coalition in the Fizi Highlands in Minembwe. According to information relayed by the army, an attempt to open an “AFC-M23” front was foiled in South Kivu.

The fighting reportedly lasted about 48 hours, from December 25 to 26 of this year, highlighting a major attack by the Makanika-Red Tabara armed coalition against several FARDC positions. The objective of this action was reportedly to take control of the Kiziba airfield in Minembwe in order to facilitate the supply of weapons, ammunition and personnel from outside, thus aiming to open an AFC-M23 front in South Kivu.

Despite the violence of the clashes and the losses recorded on both sides, an apparent lull is observed on the front line. The military authorities report that fighters have been neutralized and others injured, with human losses being deplored in the ranks of the FARDC as well as in those of the rebel coalition.

Faced with this situation, the FARDC calls on the population to remain vigilant and to support efforts to counter these hostile acts threatening the stability of the region. The army spokesperson stresses the importance for the population to remain united and collaborate in the fight against the enemies of the nation, thus demonstrating unfailing solidarity.
