The province of Kasai-Oriental has experienced a decisive turning point since the advent of Félix Tshisekedi to the presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This was stated by Governor Jean-Paul Mbwebwe during a press briefing in Mbuji-Mayi. According to him, previous presidents have not brought real progress to Kasai-Oriental, unlike Félix Tshisekedi who initiated and supported concrete projects for the benefit of the population of his province.
Indeed, after more than 50 years of power by various presidents, Kasai-Oriental had not benefited from real progress in terms of development. Mobutu, Laurent-Désiré Kabila and Joseph Kabila have failed to bring about real change in this region. However, since Félix Tshisekedi came to power, things are starting to change positively.
Governor Mbwebwe stressed that the population supports President Tshisekedi because of the many projects completed or underway in the province. The rehabilitation of urban roads, the construction of the Mbuji-Mayi airport and in particular the inspection of the works on the Kananga-Kalamba Mbuji-Mayi road have given hope to the inhabitants of Kasaï-Oriental.
The Kananga-Kalamba Mbuji-Mayi road, 220 kilometers long, is of crucial importance for the Kasaï-Oriental and Central regions. In addition to facilitating the movement of local populations, it represents a major economic opportunity by opening a route to Angola via the port of Lobito, thus providing an opening to the Atlantic Ocean.
The action undertaken by Félix Tshisekedi in the province of Kasaï-Oriental demonstrates a real desire for development and improvement of the living conditions of the inhabitants. Ongoing projects and concrete achievements illustrate the President’s commitment to all regions of the DRC, including historically marginalized provinces.
