“Fatshimétrie: A major project to open up Kasai-Central”
In the heart of Africa, in the province of Kasai-Central in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the road linking Kananga to Kalamba Mbuji is about to undergo a major transformation. Under the leadership of the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, Alexis Gisaro, the modernization project of this 230 km long section is shaping up to be a real catalyst for development for the region.
With a massive investment of $300 million from the Sino-Congolese program, this project aims to open up the province and strengthen economic ties with neighboring Angola. Concretely, the asphalting of the road, the construction of two concrete bridges over the Lueta and Kasai rivers, as well as the erection of modern infrastructure are at the heart of the work undertaken by the company SSIC SA and its subcontractor Sinohydro, under the supervision of the Congolese Agency for Major Works (ACGT).
The main objective of this modernization is to drastically reduce the travel time between Kananga and Kalamba Mbuji. Currently estimated at 72 hours, this journey should be reduced to only 4 hours once the work is completed. This reduction of 68 hours is promised as an essential lever to boost economic exchanges and improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the region.
A crucial aspect of the project lies in its progressive financing. The release of an initial tranche of 40 million dollars for the first six months, with payments planned according to the progress of the work, ensures the sustainability of the project. Minister Gisaro wants to be reassuring by stating that the solid financial framework guarantees the completion of this major project.
Beyond the simple modernization of a road, this project is of capital importance in terms of opening up and economic development. By connecting Kasaï-Central to Angola through the port of Lobito, this new communication route will encourage trade and stimulate the local economy. Nico Nzau Nzau, Director General of ACGT, underlines the crucial role of this road in the sustainable development and prosperity of the region.
Finally, President Félix Tshisekedi has committed to seeing the completion of this road before the end of his term, welcoming the commitment of the Sino-Congolese program for the construction of structuring infrastructure. “We have waited too long. This time, thanks to the government’s involvement and financial support, this infrastructure will soon see the light of day,” concludes Minister Gisaro, bringing new hope to Kasaï-Central.
