The tragedy claimed the lives of six members of the same family. According to initial investigations by the authorities, the explosion of a gas cylinder could be the cause of the fire.
The Giza Civil Protection authorities received an alert of a fire breaking out in a residential building on a side street in Al-Manyal. Five fire trucks were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the efforts of the firefighters helped contain the flames before they spread to neighboring apartments.
Once the fire was brought under control, it appeared that the entire contents of the apartment had been consumed by the flames, and that the six members of the family residing in the apartment had perished. Initial findings indicate that the fire was caused by a gas leak from a cooking gas cylinder that was in use, leading to an explosion that quickly spread the fire throughout the apartment.
Security sources said that a team of investigators is continuing their investigations by gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses and neighbors to rule out any possibility of a crime. Investigations revealed that the victims had lived in the apartment for several years, and that neighbors had not observed any disputes or problems that could suggest other motivations behind the incident.
The apartment was located in a five-story residential building, and the remaining residents managed to evacuate safely as soon as the fire broke out.
The prosecution has ordered forensic experts to examine the fire scene to determine the exact cause of the blaze, and has also requested autopsies on the victims to establish the cause of death and prepare a full medical report.
In addition, the prosecutor’s office asked the authorities to quickly assess the material losses and prepare a technical report on the condition of the building and the extent of the damage caused by the incident.
