Violent Protests Erupt in Mozambique Following Disputed Election Results
Mozambique is currently engulfed in a wave of violent unrest following the Constitutional Council’s decision to uphold the victory of the ruling Frelimo party in the October presidential election. The announcement that Frelimo’s candidate, Daniel Chapo, secured 65.17% of the vote sparked outrage and protests across the nation, with opposition supporters alleging widespread fraud and election manipulation.
The escalation of tensions has led to a deadly cycle of violence, with at least 21 people losing their lives in the clashes between demonstrators and security forces.
