In the first quarter of 2024, the Democratic Republic of Congo recorded a total gold production of 6,462.61 kilograms, according to official data from the Ministry of Mines. This remarkable feat in the Congolese mining sector is the result of concerted efforts by key players, mainly dominated by industrial production, with 6,445.61 kilograms coming largely from the activities of Kibali Gold, the country’s flagship mining company. A marginal contribution of 17 kilograms was recorded from the MCCR company.

Total gold exports also saw significant growth, amounting to 6,780.75 kilograms during the same period. These exports generated revenues amounting to $324,046,974, marking a significant contribution to the country’s economy. This performance, reflected in the monthly distribution of exports, with increasing volumes of gold exported each month, demonstrates the positive dynamics of the gold sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Breaking down these figures, we see that industrial production accounted for the majority of exports, with 6,190.08 kilograms for a value of $286,073,312. The artisanal segment, although less important in terms of volumes, contributed significantly with 590.67 kilograms exported, generating $37,973,662 in revenues.

This export growth trend highlights the crucial role of the gold industry in the Congolese economy, with a particularly strong footprint from Kibali Gold. At the same time, the artisanal sector continues to play a complementary and significant role in the country’s gold exports.
