They also set fire to about ten houses and stole cows belonging to local residents.

According to security sources, this attack was apparently aimed at neutralizing members of a rival armed group, Zaire, who were believed to be hiding in the area. The attackers, armed and coming from the villages of Abhu and Budhu, appeared in the middle of the afternoon, triggering terror among the inhabitants of Kunjagumi. Gunshots rang out, causing panic and chaos.

In addition to the loss of life and kidnappings, CODECO militiamen also stole about 30 cows, causing further economic harm to already traumatized residents. Local dignitaries report that this attack was not only deadly, but also devastating to the local economy.

In a context of incessant violence in the Ituri region, the inhabitants of Kunjagumi and surrounding villages live in constant fear of attacks by rival armed groups.
