Fatshimétrie – The alliance for a prosperous and unified African future
Friday, December 21 marked the beginning of a new era of cooperation and understanding between Congolese heads of state Félix Tshisekedi and Denis Sassou N’Gesso during their tête-à-tête in Brazzaville. This historic meeting allowed the two leaders to discuss crucial issues for the future of their respective countries and the region.
At the heart of their discussions were key issues related to the economy, climate and security. Indeed, the security situation in the sub-region, particularly in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo, was at the center of concerns. The two presidents welcomed the mediation efforts made by Angolan President João Lourenço to find diplomatic solutions to the security crisis in the provinces of North and South Kivu as well as in Ituri.
Another major issue discussed during this meeting was the project to build a road-rail bridge over the Congo River, aimed at strengthening ties between the two neighboring countries. Félix Tshisekedi was optimistic about the progress of the feasibility studies for this project, emphasizing its importance for bilateral relations and regional integration in Africa.
Furthermore, the issue of taking into account natural resources in the calculation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of African countries was also discussed. Denis Sassou N’Gesso called for adequate valuation of resources, thus allowing African states to benefit from greater funding for their development.
In short, this meeting between Félix Tshisekedi and Denis Sassou N’Gesso marks another step towards strengthened cooperation between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo. These fruitful exchanges demonstrate the desire of the two countries to work together to ensure a prosperous and harmonious future for their respective peoples, as well as for the entire African region.
