The revolution of rolling robots in Kinshasa: towards innovative management of road traffic

The Gombe district of Kinshasa recently welcomed two new traffic robots, an initiative by the Women’s Technology group aimed at improving traffic regulation in the Congolese capital. These new devices, installed respectively at the intersections of Libération and Justice avenues, as well as Justice and Batetela, are in addition to the eight other robots ordered by the government.

The installation of these robots aims to solve traffic jam problems at key points in the city, particularly where traffic is dense, especially near schools. However, despite this technological advance, concerns remain about the payment of the first eight robots ordered. Thérèse Kirongozi, head of Women’s Technology, points out that the bill remains unpaid and that this could hinder the continuation of the project.

Beyond this financial concern, Thérèse Kirongozi expresses reservations about the traffic measures put in place by the authorities to ease traffic flow in Kinshasa. She points out the consequences for pedestrians, particularly on the Boulevard du 30 juin, where these initiatives could increase the risk of accidents.

It is undeniable that the technological innovation brought by the installation of rolling robots represents a major step forward for traffic management in Kinshasa. However, it must not ignore the issues of pedestrian safety and the importance of communication to effectively raise awareness among the population about changes in traffic.

Ultimately, the balance between technology and safety must be found to ensure efficient and harmonious management of road traffic in Kinshasa. It is essential that the authorities collaborate with local stakeholders, such as Women’s Technology, to implement sustainable solutions that are adapted to the needs of the population.
