The Head of State of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, recently made adjustments to the command of the Republican Guard (GR), reaffirming his confidence in Major General Kabi Kiriza Ephraim as Commander of this special unit dedicated to presidential security. This decision comes after a series of orders announced during a nationally broadcast address.

At the instigation of President Tshisekedi, Brigadier General Katende Batubadila Benjamin was appointed Deputy Commander in charge of operations and intelligence, replacing Brigadier General Inengeli Baka Thierryson. At the same time, Brigadier General Mulumba Kabanangi Désiré retains his position as Deputy Commander, in charge of administration and logistics. The same goes for Maloba Mwila Éric, now promoted to the rank of Brigadier General, who will continue to lead the GR General Staff.

As part of these appointments, other officers have been designated to occupy strategic positions within the Republican Guard: Colonel Tshala Kalambayi Dédé as T2 of the GR, Colonel Lumu Kateba Alidor as T3, Colonel Katanga Mubikayi Dieudonné as Commander of the 14th Security Regiment, and Lieutenant-Colonel Makoko Bwanamoya Serge as Commander of the 141st High Security Regiment.

The Republican Guard’s main mission is to ensure the protection of the President of the Republic, his family and high-ranking personalities, as well as the security of presidential property and installations. If necessary, this unit can be mobilized for public order operations or even be engaged in armed conflicts. Its commander reports directly to the president on operational matters, but depends on the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the DRC for all matters relating to administration and logistics.

The appointment and reappointment of these senior officers within the Republican Guard demonstrate the Head of State’s desire to consolidate and strengthen the systems ensuring his security as well as that of senior State figures. This decision also reflects the confidence placed in these officers to successfully carry out the missions entrusted to them, in a context where the stability and security of the country remain major issues.

The renewal within the Republican Guard marks the beginning of a new chapter in presidential security in the DR Congo, under the enlightened leadership of Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi.
