**Worrying situation in Lubero territory: the urgency of a humanitarian intervention**
The situation in Lubero territory, in the North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is alarming. The presence of M23 rebels has plunged thousands of inhabitants into a situation of extreme vulnerability. Local civil society, represented by its president Muhindo Tafuteni, is sounding the alarm and calling for urgent intervention to meet the pressing needs of the population.
Indeed, according to testimonies collected during a press briefing held in Beni, the population of Lubero is facing a major humanitarian crisis. The inhabitants have been forced to leave their homes, leaving behind their belongings and livelihoods. Displaced and deprived of everything, they are now exposed to precariousness and insecurity.
Muhindo Tafuteni highlights the dramatic consequences of this situation on the local population. Young people, in particular, are exposed to forced recruitment by the rebels, threatening their future and their integrity. In addition, access to basic services such as health and food is greatly compromised due to the violence perpetrated in the area.
Health structures in the region are vandalized, depriving the inhabitants of Lubero of access to essential care. Living conditions have become extremely precarious for a population already weakened by years of conflict. Faced with this humanitarian emergency, civil society is calling on the Congolese government and its partners to intervene immediately to rescue the displaced populations and restore a semblance of normality in the region.
It is crucial that concrete measures be taken quickly to meet the dire needs of the population of Lubero. Urgent humanitarian action is necessary to alleviate the suffering of the inhabitants and guarantee their safety and dignity. It is time for the international community to mobilize to help those suffering in the shadow of violence and war.
