Solving internal problems at ONATRA: a decisive turning point towards a promising future

The recent ministerial meeting on the crisis at ONATRA was the scene of crucial decisions for the future of this public company. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Judith Suminwa Tuluka, a constructive dialogue was established to respond to the legitimate demands of employees and resolve the various outstanding issues.

One of the main concerns discussed during this meeting was that of salary arrears, a burning issue that greatly affects the morale and financial stability of ONATRA workers. Following the instruction of the Prime Minister, the decision was taken to clear two months of salary arrears, thus restoring hope and confidence to the company’s managers and agents.

The positive reaction of the president of the Intersyndicale, Armand Osasse, expresses general satisfaction with this significant progress. By suspending the strike notice, the unions demonstrated their confidence in the government and committed to maintaining an open dialogue to resolve the other problems weighing on ONATRA.

The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of the dispossession of ONATRA’s assets, appointing a commission to restore the company’s rights to its dispossessed assets, particularly in the railway sector. This proactive approach aims to restore ONATRA’s integrity and operational efficiency.

In parallel, the government committed to modernizing the National Office of Transport in order to restore its former splendor. Projects to modernize the Matadi-Kinshasa railway and rehabilitate the shipyards are planned to strengthen the company’s infrastructure and services.

An interesting initiative discussed at the meeting was the exploration of river transport as a solution to the persistent traffic jams in Kinshasa. The acquisition of river taxis could offer an effective alternative to smooth traffic flow in the capital, thus facilitating the movement of citizens and goods.

In conclusion, the government meeting on the crisis at ONATRA marked a decisive turning point in resolving the company’s internal problems. The collaboration between the authorities, unions and ONATRA management opens up promising prospects for a more serene and prosperous future for this key institution of the country.
