Raising awareness: Towards lasting peace in eastern DRC

The symposium organized by the Universal Peace Federation (FPU) in Kindu, in the Maniema province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, reflects a critical situation requiring collective mobilization in favor of peace. It is in this context that eminent figures from the scientific world met to discuss the issue of peace in eastern DRC.

The director of the FPU, Rev. Gilbert Boissa, rightly emphasizes that peace is an inestimable good, all the more necessary in a region plagued by recurring unrest. He highlights the importance of raising awareness among the population to take ownership of the issues of peace and actively work for its preservation. The theme chosen for the symposium, “peace begins with me”, resonates as a call for patriotic awareness that is essential for all Congolese.

By inviting the elite of Maniema to reflect together on the avenues for solutions to establish lasting peace in the region, the director of the FPU shows the way towards concerted and thoughtful action. This collective and inclusive approach aims to mobilize all the vital forces of society for a common commitment to peace.

Beyond speeches, this symposium represents an opportunity for local actors to take ownership of the issues of peace and actively contribute to its construction. It also embodies a necessary awareness on the part of the international community to support local initiatives for peace and stability in the East of the DRC.

Ultimately, this symposium on peace in Kindu is of capital importance in a regional context marked by instability and conflicts. It highlights the need for collective mobilization and an inclusive approach to promote a culture of peace and dialogue in a region that greatly needs it.
