Bees fans held their breath on Friday 18th December 2024 as their team took on Newcastle in the quarter-finals of the League Cup. Unfortunately, any hopes of Brentford reaching the semi-finals were dashed as Yoane Wissa and co were beaten 3-1 at St. James Park.
The Bees struggled to impose their play from the start, conceding a goal in the first ten minutes of play. Despite a few attempts, they then conceded two more goals which made their task more difficult. Yoane Wissa managed to reduce the deficit with a superb late goal, but it was not enough to see his team through to the next round.
This is the third time this season that the talented Congolese striker has scored against the Magpies, most notably his double in Brentford’s 4-2 win over Newcastle in the Premier League. However, this time, despite his best efforts, Yoane Wissa was unable to be the hero and lead his club into the League Cup semi-finals.
With this goal, Yoane Wissa takes his tally to 10 goals in all competitions this season, confirming his status as a major asset to the Brentford team. His talent and determination are without doubt, and he will certainly continue to shine on the pitch in the coming weeks.
This League Cup setback is a disappointment for the Bees and their supporters, but there is no doubt that the team will bounce back and continue to fight for their goals. Yoane Wissa and his team-mates will be keen to redeem themselves in the coming matches and show what they are capable of. The League Cup adventure ends here, but the hope and determination remain intact at Brentford.
