When the citizen’s gaze falls on the electoral process, the expectation becomes intense, mixed with hope and vigilance. It is in this atmosphere charged with democratic issues that the electoral observation mission “Regard Citoyen” is part of. Through its expertise and commitment to transparency, the MOE Regard Citoyen played a key role during the recent national and provincial legislative elections in the constituencies of Masi-Manimba and Yakoma.
These elections, long awaited after the cancellation of those of the previous year due to fraud and irregularities, represent a crucial moment for the consolidation of democracy and the expression of citizen aspirations. The MOE Regard Citoyen scrutinized each stage of the electoral process, from the campaign to the ballot, in search of signs of transparency, fairness and respect for fundamental rights.
In its preliminary report, the Electoral Observation Mission highlighted a peaceful campaign climate, despite a few isolated incidents of violence in Yakoma. The presence of women in polling stations was noted positively, demonstrating progress towards a more balanced representation within decision-making bodies. However, violations of the right to vote were noted, which underlines the need to strengthen the mechanisms for monitoring and protecting citizens’ electoral rights.
Beyond the electoral results that will determine the representatives of the Masi-Manimba and Yakoma constituencies, these elections mark a crucial step in the consolidation of Congolese democracy. Citizen participation, transparency of the electoral process and respect for fundamental rights are all pillars on which the legitimacy of democratic institutions is based.
Thus, the electoral observation mission “Regard Citoyen” embodies the spirit of vigilance and commitment of Congolese citizens for a strong, inclusive democracy that respects democratic values. Because it is together, in the diversity of our opinions and our backgrounds, that we build the democratic future of our country, ensuring that each voice is heard and respected.
