Promoting citizen vigilance and human rights in the DRC: the commitment of the NGO Friends of Nelson Mandela

The NGO Friends of Nelson Mandela for Human Rights recently launched its ambitious three-year program 2024-2027 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This program aims to strengthen citizen vigilance, observance and documentation of human rights violations in the country. This initiative is part of the campaign entitled “It must stop this time” in the DRC.

The deployment of the NGO’s lieutenants on the ground in 7 specific areas in the province demonstrates the organization’s concrete commitment to combating human rights violations. These human rights defenders will play a crucial role in collecting information, monitoring violations of fundamental rights and raising awareness among local populations.

The main objective of this program is to end impunity and ensure respect for human rights in the DRC. It is essential to strengthen citizen vigilance to enable citizens to speak out and report abuses. Documenting and monitoring human rights violations is a crucial step in providing tangible evidence of violations of fundamental freedoms and working to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

Furthermore, the NGO strongly opposes any attempt to change or revise the Constitution in the DRC. It considers that such a project is inappropriate and could compromise human rights gains. By opposing this possibility, the organization defends the integrity of democratic institutions and the primacy of respect for fundamental rights.

It is crucial to raise awareness and mobilize civil society to ensure that human rights are respected and protected in the DRC. The commitment and determination of the NGO Friends of Nelson Mandela for Human Rights are key elements in promoting a culture of respect for individual and collective freedoms.

Together, citizens, civil society organizations, and authorities, we can contribute to building a future where human rights are a reality for all citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo. These actions are crucial to building a just, equitable society that respects the rights of everyone.

Ultimately, the three-year program 2024-2027 of the NGO Friends of Nelson Mandela for Human Rights in the DRC is an essential initiative to promote citizen vigilance, document human rights violations and work towards a more just society that respects the fundamental rights of everyone.
