Fight against night-time insecurity: mobilization in Haut Katanga

Fatshimetrie | The fight against insecurity in the province of Haut Katanga

The resurgence of insecurity in the major cities of the province of Haut Katanga, and in particular in Lubumbashi, Likasi and Kasumbalesa, is a worrying reality that is hitting the population hard during this period of end-of-year and New Year festivities. Bandits, sometimes armed, are mercilessly rampaging by visiting households between midnight and 3 a.m., leaving behind a feeling of fear and vulnerability among citizens.

Faced with this alarming situation, the Congolese national police of the province of Haut Katanga, under the leadership of Chief Inspector General Dieudonné ODIMBA, has taken drastic measures. During a parade held on December 16, 2024, it was announced that maximum alert would be launched for a period of one month, from December 15 to January 15, in the cities concerned. The law enforcement agencies are tasked with ensuring the safety of residents and their property every night.

The implementation of this maximum alert has already produced concrete results. Recently, the city of Kasumbalesa was the scene of a widespread attack by criminals. However, thanks to the effective collaboration between local authorities, the police and the population, the malicious plan was thwarted. Residents played a crucial role in quickly reporting threats, which allowed the law enforcement agencies to intervene effectively.

This resurgence of insecurity is now forcing the population to adopt new precautionary strategies. It is imperative to remain vigilant and not let one’s guard down, even during the night hours. This delicate situation calls for increased solidarity between citizens and the authorities to ensure the safety of all.

Ultimately, the fight against insecurity in the Haut Katanga province is a major challenge that requires collective mobilization and effective preventive and repressive measures. The population must be able to count on law enforcement agencies that are present and proactive to ensure their protection. Together, it is possible to reduce insecurity and preserve peace and tranquility in our cities.
