Title: Reconciliation in Syria: The call for unity for a promising future
In the still tumultuous context of the Syrian conflict, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, stressed the crucial importance of establishing a political process in Syria, inclusive and uniquely Syrian, bringing together all components of society, political and social forces, with the aim of achieving national reconciliation and ensuring the success of the transition process.
Speaking at the meeting of the Arab Ministerial Contact Committee on Syria, Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s position, emphasizing the need to support the Syrian people in this critical period, preserve the unity and integrity of the Syrian territory, respect its sovereignty and strengthen state institutions to increase their capacity to serve the Syrian people.
This meeting was held in Aqaba, Jordan, a symbolic venue for dialogue and cooperation between Arab countries.
The top diplomat reaffirmed Egypt’s categorical rejection of Israeli incursions into the buffer zone with Syria, condemning the Israeli occupation of Syrian territories and the violation of the 1974 disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law.
He also condemned Israel’s systematic airstrikes targeting the Syrian army’s infrastructure and military capabilities, stressing that such acts threaten the stability of the region and hamper efforts to achieve a peaceful solution.
In a context where peace and stability in Syria remain essential objectives, the call for national reconciliation, based on mutual respect and the participation of all Syrian actors, appears as an essential path for a promising future in the region.
It is imperative that the various stakeholders fully engage in constructive dialogue, setting aside partisan interests in favor of the higher interests of the Syrian people. Respect for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity is essential to ensure a democratic and inclusive transition process.
In conclusion, the search for a lasting political solution in Syria requires sincere commitment from all stakeholders, as well as continued international support to help the country overcome the challenges that stand in its way to peace and prosperity.
