Fatshimetrie has recently been the subject of major controversy with the dismissal of the provincial Minister of Interior, Security and Customary Affairs, Constant Mavimbidila, by the governor of Kongo Central province, Grâce Nkuanga. This decision follows allegations of human rights violations following an incident in the village of Kilawu, in the Mbanza-Ngungu territory.
The man at the centre of this case was allegedly the victim of torture and degrading treatment, orchestrated and supervised by Minister Mavimbidila himself. A video, widely shared on social media, shocked the public by showing an individual in extreme pain, while an individual wearing a press vest whips him.
This case sparked deep indignation among members of the Provincial Assembly, who took firm measures against the ousted minister. During a session devoted to the examination of the 2025 budget edict, the Provincial Assembly withdrew its confidence in Constant Mavimbidila, thus expressing its firm disapproval of such unacceptable actions within the government and the province.
In an official statement, the President of the Provincial Assembly, Papy Mantezolo, stressed the importance of responsibility and ethics in the exercise of power, stating that the representatives of the people cannot remain passive in the face of such transgressions of human rights.
According to local authorities, the abused victim was involved in illegal land sales activities, having ceded more than 200 hectares without the consent of his family. However, nothing justifies acts of torture and violence, which are contrary to the fundamental principles of respect for human dignity and the rule of law.
The dismissal of Constant Mavimbidila is a strong signal of the willingness of the provincial authorities to ensure justice and punish abuses of power. This dismissal should be accompanied by a reorganization of the provincial government, aimed at restoring public trust and preventing future instances of misconduct.
In conclusion, this case underscores the critical importance of integrity and respect for human rights in government institutions. By taking strong action against those responsible for abuses, Governor Nkuanga is sending a clear message that justice and transparency are non-negotiable values in building a democratic and ethical society.
