MONUSCO Blue Helmets Intensify Operation “Peace Horizon” to Secure Djugu

Fatshimétrie: MONUSCO Blue Helmets intensify Operation “Peace Horizon” in Djugu territory

Since Monday, December 10, the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) has launched the second phase of Operation “Peace Horizon” in Djugu territory, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This decision comes in a context marked by the escalation of violence perpetrated by local armed groups, endangering the security of populations and hindering their free movement.

The main objective of this operation is to contain the violence of local armed groups, such as Zaire and CODECO, which have been raging in the region for several weeks. These militias have increased their abuses against residents, setting ambushes on the main roads, particularly in Gokalu, Pitso and Dhadju. Road users are regularly robbed of their belongings, which has led to an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among local populations.

Faced with this worrying situation, MONUSCO has decided to strengthen its presence on the ground by conducting patrols on several strategic axes, such as Drodro, Largu, Masumbuko and Maze. These operations aim to secure the roads and protect civilians against attacks by armed groups. In addition, the Blue Helmets will soon extend their patrols to national road number 27, as part of their mandate to protect local populations.

The positive impact of Operation “Horizon de paix” is already being felt, in particular by facilitating the free movement of residents and strengthening security in the Djugu region. Thanks to the commitment of MONUSCO forces, many families can once again access their fields and go to community markets without fear of being attacked by militiamen.

In conclusion, the intensification of Operation “Peace Horizon” by MONUSCO Blue Helmets constitutes a decisive response to the persistent threat of armed groups in the Djugu territory. This initiative underlines the commitment of the international community to protect civilians and promote peace and stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
