The terror of the Mai-Mai Bakata Katanga in Kapando: Story of a night of horror

The village of Kapando, in the Bukama territory, was the scene of a night of horror during the violent incursion of the Mai-Mai Bakata Katanga. During this brutal attack, a man and his wife were shot dead, plunging the community into terror and uncertainty. The kidnappers, armed with firearms and bladed weapons, entered the home of a lady neighboring the victim couple and took a sum of money, sowing panic among the inhabitants.

Faced with this imminent threat, many families were forced to abandon their homes and seek refuge elsewhere, fleeing the violence that seems to be alarmingly taking hold in the region. Some even took the risk of crossing Lake Upemba to find a safer place, but this attempt turned into tragedy with the sinking of a pirogue and the tragic drowning of two children.

The Bukama territory is plagued by growing insecurity, fueled by the presence of armed groups that sow terror and death among the civilian population. The administrator of the territory strongly condemned these unacceptable acts of violence and called on the attackers to lay down their arms and engage in dialogue with the authorities to resolve their differences peacefully.

This recurrence of attacks by the Mai-Mai Bakata Katanga in the region is alarming and endangers the lives and security of the inhabitants of Kapando. It is urgent that concrete measures be taken to protect civilians and guarantee security in this area. The development of the region can only be achieved in a climate of peace and stability, far from the violence and fear that currently haunt the inhabitants.

It is time for the international community to mobilize to support the efforts of the local authorities to put an end to this spiral of violence and insecurity that threatens the lives of thousands of innocent people. It is our collective duty to condemn these barbaric acts and work together to build a better future, where peace and security are fundamental rights for all.
