Improving and modernizing urban infrastructure is a major challenge for the well-being of populations and the development of cities. In this perspective, the Kulumba Avenue rehabilitation project in Masina, Kinshasa, is a commendable initiative that aims to improve traffic flow and relieve congestion on Lumumba Boulevard, which is heavily affected by recurring traffic jams.
The launch of the rehabilitation work on Kulumba Avenue in December 2022 raised hopes among residents of district 2 of the commune of Masina. However, two years after the start of the work, its progress has been criticized for its slowness. Local residents are expressing their impatience and calling on the Congolese authorities to mobilize more resources to accelerate the construction of this urban road.
With a length of 6.80 km, Kulumba Avenue will connect the communes of Masina and Limeté, thus facilitating the mobility of residents and contributing to the economic growth of the region. Once completed, this new road will also improve accessibility to the Liberté market and relieve congestion on Lumumba Boulevard, making traffic flow more smoothly and safely for all users.
Furthermore, the positive effects of the rehabilitation of Kulumba Avenue will not be limited to the road aspect. Indeed, residents also hope to be supplied with drinking water, as many Regideso pipes had to be moved to allow this project to be carried out. This social and environmental dimension of the project underlines the importance of rigorous planning and execution to ensure a positive impact on the quality of life of local populations.
In conclusion, the rehabilitation of Kulumba Avenue in Masina represents a significant step forward for the urban development of Kinshasa. It is imperative that the work continues efficiently and that the authorities pay particular attention to the needs of residents in order to guarantee the success and sustainability of this infrastructure project, which is essential for the harmonious development of the region.
