Strengthening security in Goma: Operation “Safisha Mji” against crime

As part of Operation “Safisha Mji wa Goma”, a hundred alleged criminals were recently arrested in Goma and are currently being brought before the city’s military court to answer for their actions. This action aims to strengthen security and combat the insecurity that is plaguing the region. According to Djembi Mondondo Michel, military auditor of the Goma garrison, the military justice system is committed to effectively combating crime and raising awareness among the population by organizing public hearings.

The Goma military court has already dealt with a dozen cases in flagrante delicto and has handed down sentences against the perpetrators of various crimes. A total of 131 detainees are the subject of 32 cases currently being processed, including minors and women. The alleged offences range from armed robbery to acts of violence and murder, highlighting the seriousness of the acts committed by these individuals.

Among the convictions already handed down, that of a Muzalendo, a supplementary combatant in the army, who was sentenced to death for having shot a student dead in a classroom in Nyiragongo, as well as that of a Republican Guard soldier guilty of having shot two people dead at the public port of Goma. These decisions illustrate the determination of the military court to punish criminal acts and to bring justice to the victims.

Another notable case is that of a Muzalendo combatant prosecuted for having killed a 3-year-old child in the Bulengo displaced persons camps. The hearing of this flagrante delicto trial is scheduled for Monday, December 9, underlining the importance of prosecutions in such tragic cases.

Beyond the figures and convictions, these cases reveal the need to strengthen security measures and to enforce public order in Goma. The population expects concrete actions to guarantee its safety and tranquility on a daily basis. The role of military justice is thus crucial in the fight against crime and the protection of citizens.

In conclusion, Operation Safisha Mji wa Goma and the actions of the military tribunal demonstrate the determination of the authorities to uphold the law and prosecute the perpetrators of crimes. These measures are essential to ensure security and peace in the region, and to establish a climate of trust among the population.
