Inauguration of the Annex Office for the Corps of Bar Association in Abuja: Strengthening the Judicial Sector in Nigeria

The inauguration of the Bar Association Annex Office in Abuja marked a milestone in the development of infrastructure for the judiciary. At the event, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, reaffirmed his commitment to continued support for the construction of infrastructure for the judiciary.

Minister Wike’s remarks at the ceremony highlighted the need for infrastructure for the judiciary, despite some criticisms that there were favoritism intentions. He expressed his determination to continue his work for the betterment of his country, ignoring negative discourses: “No matter what they say, don’t listen to them; those who say it, don’t look at them and since I can’t respond, I will continue to do my job for the betterment of my country. That’s all I can do.”

The Minister also commended the President of the Bar Association, Adegboyega Awomolo, for stressing the need for cooperation among the three branches of government. He noted that the Federal Capital Territory is making significant contributions to all sectors, noting that it is currently responsible for the construction of a new infrastructure for the National Assembly.

He thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the project as well as the Bar Corps Annex Office. He noted the relevance of the project to build a housing facility for lecturers at the Nigerian Law School, a public institution owned by the Federal Government but lacking adequate infrastructure.

Minister Wike assured the Bar Corps of his loyalty and support, promising to do justice to their office and make a difference in governance. He stressed the importance of contribution to legal education and justice, inviting everyone to ask themselves what their contribution was when the time comes to account.

In a context where the independence of each power is crucial, the support provided by the executive to justice should not be seen as interference but as a strengthening of infrastructure and operating resources to better serve citizens.

In conclusion, the inauguration of the Annex Office for the Corps of Bar Association in Abuja demonstrates the government’s commitment to the development and improvement of the judicial sector. This approach aims to strengthen links between the various actors of power and to offer optimal working conditions to guarantee fair and efficient justice.
