Deadly rebel attack rocks Tenambo, North Kivu: call for unity for peace and security

In a region already scarred by years of conflict and insecurity, a new rebel attack has spread terror and death in Tenambo, near Oicha, North Kivu. The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), responsible for this umpteenth tragedy, have once again struck innocent civilians, leaving behind a heavy toll: 9 people killed, including a baby, and a dozen houses burned.

The deputy mayor of the commune of Oicha, Kambale Kibwana Jean De Dieu, described a scene of desolation and chaos. The inhabitants, already weakened by years of recurring violence, are plunged into despair, faced with the scale of the tragedy that has just struck their community. The lifeless bodies of the victims now lie in the morgue of the local hospital, awaiting a funeral that will be marked by sadness and mourning.

Local authorities and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) responded quickly, promising to track down the attackers and do everything possible to ensure the safety of vulnerable populations. Despite efforts to protect civilians, this attack is a cruel reminder of the ongoing instability in this region of eastern DRC.

This latest tragedy comes just two days after a similar attack in Totolito, where some fifteen civilians lost their lives. The resurgence of violence perpetrated by ADF rebels underscores the urgent need for concerted action to end this cycle of violence and protect local populations.

As the population is plunged into pain and fear, it is essential to strengthen security and stabilization efforts in the region. Vigilance and solidarity from all are needed to address this persistent threat and ensure a peaceful future for the people of North Kivu.

In these dark times, solidarity and support for the victims and their families are essential to heal the wounds caused by this tragedy and rebuild hope for a better future for this community scarred by violence.
