Major repair works to come on the Lagos Maritime Bridge: Road diversion plan during the works

The prestigious Lagos Sea Bridge, a vital route linking key areas of the city, will soon undergo major repair works. Announced by the government’s transport policy, this decision aims to ensure the safety and sustainability of this vital infrastructure for the metropolis. Indeed, from December 4, 2024 to February 25, 2025, traffic disruptions will be put in place to carry out these essential works.

The Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stressed in an official statement the need for road users to take appropriate diversion routes during the works period. Thus, motorists coming from Apapa towards Lagos Island are advised to use the Costain roundabout to reach the Eko Bridge and thus access Lagos Island. An alternative is to use the Marine Bridge to access the road leading to Ijora to reach Lagos Island.

For road users heading from Apapa towards Ijora Causeway/Iddo, it is recommended to pass through Costain roundabout to access Eko Bridge and then proceed to Iddo. Another option would be to pass through Marine Bridge to access Ijora to proceed to Iddo to reach their final destination.

These temporary diversion measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of drivers and smooth flow of traffic during the period of repair works. It is essential that all road users comply with these directives to avoid any inconvenience and to enable the efficient completion of these essential works.

In conclusion, the major repair works planned on the Lagos Sea Bridge are a crucial step in maintaining the integrity of this key infrastructure. With the collaboration of the authorities and the cooperation of motorists, these works will be carried out efficiently and safely, thereby ensuring the sustainability of this vital link to the Lagos metropolis.
