Improving urban sanitation in Lubumbashi: A crucial step towards a healthier environment

Fatshimetrie, November 5, 2024 – The concern to preserve a healthy and clean environment is essential for the residents of Lubumbashi, as evidenced by the recent inspection visit carried out by the interim mayor, Joyce Tunda Kazadi. The latter visited various sites where sanitation works are underway in order to raise awareness among the population on the importance of effectively managing waste and ensuring the unblocking of drains and gutters.

During her visit, Ms. Kazadi highlighted the urgency of properly disposing of and treating electronic and pneumatic waste, emphasizing the inclusive sanitation of the city of Lubumbashi. She underlined the municipality’s commitment to ensuring a healthy and pleasant living environment for all citizens.

The teams responsible for sanitation works were praised and encouraged by the interim mayor for their sustained efforts in maintaining urban spaces, evacuating waste and unblocking drainage networks. This special attention takes on its full meaning in the face of the heavy rains currently falling on the city, requiring rapid action to prevent the risk of flooding in sensitive areas.

In the interests of safety and traffic flow, Joyce Tunda Kazadi also ordered the evacuation of motorcyclists parked at the Mulykap station, located at the junction between the Luano airport road and the Likasi road. This measure aims to guarantee the safety of road users and to ensure better access to the various sites managed by the sanitation teams.

Ultimately, this proactive approach by the municipality of Lubumbashi in terms of sanitation and waste management demonstrates its desire to promote sustainable development and an improved quality of life for all its residents. It is essential that everyone, aware of these issues, actively participates in preserving their environment and keeping their city clean. ACP/UKB
