Imo Police Heroic Response to Armed Attack: Assailant Neutralized, Security Paramount

During a routine patrol mission near the Owerri Airport on the Owerri/Aba road, a tragic incident occurred involving police officers and assailants. According to a statement from the Imo State Police Command, about ten assailants, travelling in two vehicles, ambushed the officers.

In an act of remarkable bravery, the police, particularly the Counter Terrorism Unit, responded swiftly to counter the attack. A gunfight ensued, during which one assailant was neutralized and the others fled, leaving behind their operational vehicle, a grey coloured 4×4 with Lagos State registration.

Thankfully, no police officer was injured in the incident. The officers seized an AK-47 rifle, 15 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, an IPOB/ESN flag and the abandoned vehicle.

A thorough search operation is underway to trace the remaining suspects, expressing the authorities’ determination to enhance security in the area. The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has appealed to the public, especially health care providers, to report anyone seeking medical treatment for gunshot wounds. He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and addressing threats to peace in the area.

In other news, the authorities have apprehended a 17-year-old student of the Imo State University, Jesse Chidebere, for allegedly orchestrating her own “disappearance” and “death”. The hoax is said to have caused significant distress to her family and the university community. An investigation is underway to understand the motivations behind his actions, while maintaining community safety as a priority.

While the security climate remains a major concern, a real spirit of collaboration between law enforcement and the population is essential to ensure the safety of all.
