Tragedy rocks local community: Fatal assault case at Fatshimetrie Hotel


On 12th November 2024, a tragic event shook the local community, highlighting the violence and impunity that can prevail in certain circumstances. Indeed, at around 12:40pm that day, an assault took place at Fatshimetrie Hotel. Akinolu, a young man who had gone to the hotel to meet an individual to whom he had paid ₦50,000 for musical equipment, was brutally attacked by unidentified individuals.

Witnesses to the scene reported that Akinolu began vomiting blood after the assault. Despite prompt treatment and transfer to a nearby hospital, doctors were unfortunately unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead.

Akinolu’s death angered local residents, who gathered at the hotel and attacked the hotel in retaliation. In the ensuing clash, the hotel manager was injured and property damage was sustained, including musical instruments damaged. The Ogun State Police have vowed to bring the culprits to justice.

A police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident the following day, saying investigations were ongoing. Akinolu’s father reported the incident to the Ajuwon Police Station, explaining that his son had gone to the hotel for the encounter that unfortunately led to his tragic death.

In addition to the injuries sustained by the manager, the spokesperson noted that the hotel’s musical instruments were damaged extensively. Police officers were dispatched to the scene to restore order, while Akinolu’s body was taken to the Olambe Mortuary for further examination and autopsy.

This tragic sequence of events raises many questions about the safety of our communities and the need for decisive action to prevent such acts of violence in the future. Local authorities and police will need to redouble their efforts to ensure the safety of all and to ensure justice is served for Akinolu and his family.
