Fatshimetrie, November 2, 2024 – The lawyers of the International Alliance of Women Lawyers (AIFA) based in Kinshasa and in various cities in the Democratic Republic of Congo, are courageous actors in the defense and promotion of women’s rights across the country. AIFA President, Ms. Joëlle Mbamba Kona, highlighted the importance of their commitment during a recent interview with our editorial staff.
According to Ms. Mbamba, women lawyers play an essential role in society, with active representations in Kinshasa and several other localities. She stressed the association’s desire to extend its action to other regions of the country, stating that their main cause is the defense and promotion of women’s rights in the DRC.
To illustrate their mission on the ground, the AIFA President mentioned a recent morning of awareness raising on the fight against breast cancer that took place as part of the closing of “Pink October”, in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) of the DRC.
In addition to her role within AIFA, Ms. Joëlle Mbamba also holds the position of Vice-President of the CNDH-DRC. She highlighted the importance of the association in disseminating women’s rights and in finding solutions to societal problems.
In addition to its mission of defending women’s rights, AIFA carries out concrete actions with a significant impact in the legal field. It is recognized as an international community of women lawyers dedicated to promoting the defense of civil, children’s and women’s rights.
Recently founded on the initiative of women lawyers representing more than 26 nations, AIFA is an international non-governmental, non-profit organization, independent of any political or religious affiliation. Its main objective is to defend the rights of women and children in civil society, and to provide legal support to associations sharing its mission.
