The land of the Pharaohs is about to take a new step in welcoming its foreign visitors. Indeed, the Egyptian Senate recently validated a proposal to make health insurance mandatory for all tourists entering the country. This initiative, submitted by Senator Hayam Farouk, aims to improve the tourist experience while ensuring the health and safety of travelers.
This decision is part of a desire to create a safer and healthier tourist environment by providing foreign visitors with access to necessary medical care in the event of an emergency or accident. Farouk stressed that many countries around the world already require tourists to purchase health insurance before entering their territory, and that Egypt should also follow this trend.
According to the Senator’s statements to Al-Masry Al-Youm, this proposed insurance policy will cover emergency medical cases and accidents, ensuring that tourists receive prompt medical care if necessary. She also highlighted the importance of coordination between different government agencies, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Tourism and Antiquities, Health, and Interior (Passports), to effectively implement this new policy.
This decision comes after a recent tragic boat accident near Marsa Alam, where a boat carrying 44 people, including 31 foreign nationals, sank. This incident highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of tourists visiting Egypt.
By enacting this health insurance requirement for tourists, Egypt is sending a strong signal of its commitment to ensuring safe and enjoyable tourist experiences for its foreign visitors. This measure is expected not only to strengthen tourists’ confidence in the destination, but also to help preserve the country’s reputation as a welcoming and safe place for travelers from around the world.
