A Mystery in the Red Sea: Seven Passengers Disappear in the Sinking of the Tourist Boat “Sea Story”


Fatshimetrie closely followed the search and rescue operations that took place on the third unsuccessful day to find the seven individuals missing following the sinking of the tourist boat “Sea Story” in Marsa Alam. Despite aerial overflights and maritime searches, no sign of the missing persons was found.

The investigation conducted by the Quseir Public Prosecutor’s Office in the Red Sea revealed that the boat had a valid navigation certificate for a period of one year, and no technical defects were found on the vessel.

The authorities continue to question the surviving crew members to elucidate the causes and circumstances of the accident. The testimonies of the survivors, including that of the young Belgian couple, Christophe and Luciana, have been collected.

The Governor of the Red Sea, General Amr Hanfi, praised the collaboration with foreign embassies in order to provide the necessary assistance to the surviving passengers and the repatriation of the deceased. So far, 33 people have been rescued and 4 bodies have been recovered, bringing the number of people rescued to 37. The search continues for the seven missing persons.

The efficiency of the naval forces and the various actors involved in the rescue operations was highlighted by Governor Hanfi. Three victims of German and Slovak nationality were transported to the morgue of the Hurghada General Hospital, while the respective embassies were informed of these deaths.
